A personal blog

Notes on work, family,
and figuring things out.

I’m Jake — an actuary, husband, and dad of two. This is where I think out loud about insurance, personal finance, parenting, fitness, and whatever else I’m working through. Written mostly for my daughters. Read by whoever finds it useful.

Who’s
writing this?

I’m a Fellow in the Society of Actuaries with ten years in the insurance industry, mostly working on retirement pricing, but also experience studies and data analytics focused on retirement solutions. I live in Federal Way, WA with my wife Vanessa and our two daughters.

I started this blog as a place to document what I’m thinking about — professionally and personally. The main audience is my kids, someday. But if you’re an actuary, a parent, or someone who likes reading systematic people try to think through unsystematic things, you’re welcome here too.
