Hello Blog 2026!

I know I’m a little late to the game on “blogging”, but I don’t care. This blog is mostly for my girls so they can maybe look back at my posts and see how I approached work, family, health, problems and life. I’m not dying or anything (well, eventually I’ll die), but I wanted a place to share my thoughts and figured a blog could be a good outlet. Although they may not be interested in many of the topics I’ll probably post about, having a blog gives me a place to put my thoughts.

So, why now? Last year I finished my actuarial exams and with my girls starting to get older, I wanted a way to document my thoughts and ideas. Historically I’ve always kept those thoughts and ideas private, but I figure it doesn’t hurt to share with those that are interested. I’ve never been a big fan of social media; broadcasting my thoughts for people to passively view, judge, like/dislike/anger and comment on so this is for people who actually want to read my notes instead of feeding an algorithm. Sometimes I’ll share opinions on current events, but mostly I want to write about what I’m learning and doing—things that might be useful to my daughters someday, or to anyone else dealing with similar challenges.

I want most of my blog posts to be about the most important things in my life, which are:

  1. Family – I’m a dad and husband first and foremost. My family is everything.
  2. Career – I’m an Actuary, which few people have ever heard of, and love the work I get to do.
  3. Health – This is a newer journey for me, so I’ll document what works for me.
  4. Money – It’s not the most important thing, but it matters a lot.
  5. Interests – I have lots and I’m always adding more, from golf to board games to movies.
  6. Thoughts – Also have lots of these so I’ll share them sometimes when appropriate

Although I may use AI to help ideate post ideas and edit my posts, I’ll never simply let AI write articles for my blog. I enjoy the act of writing and getting my ideas down so I will keep this blog as true to my own writing and style as possible, but I want to be transparent that AI is a major part of my life and workflows and I’ll use it to improve content I create.
